BassFan Winning Pattern

Consistency was the name of Mike McClelland's game at the Harris Chain Bassmaster Elite Series. Pros who win tour-level events will often tell you that keeping an open mind was a critical component in their success. But a narrow-minded approach worked quite nicely for Mike McClelland at the recent Harris Chain Bassmaster Elite Series. Read More..

3rd: McClelland Used Grand Experience
ESPN Outdoors/Seigo Saito
McClelland lives a few hours from the Grand River over in Bella Vista, Ark. He's strong on Grand – he won there in 2006 and finished 11th in 2007.

"I'm glad for Biffle, but I'd rather be leading right now," McClelland said. "I'm in a position where I need to make the end-of-the-year Top 12. I probably need a Top 5 and to lead a day or two to make it, and it's been my goal all year to make it."

That wasn't his first thought this morning, though. He was most concerned with catching a fish to ensure he made the Classic. He called it "survival mode."

"The first one I caught was a 4-pounder, and then things started coming together. I had a limit pretty early and I figured out a bait for catching some better fish and rolled with it." Complete Story

Like father, like son
Mike McClelland has an outside shot to win the AutoZone Sooner Run if he gets a break during Day Four and finds those quality fish that he's been known to do.

Currently in 11th spot, McClelland wishes he was in a better position to win it all, but knows that he will have the support of his father, Rodney, who taught him the art of bass fishing.

"The cool thing about fishing on Father's Day is that my father is here with me," McClelland said. "He road over here with me and the fact that he supports what I do means a lot. It's special to fish on Father's Day. I wish I was in better shape to win, but anything is possible. If the good Lord intends for me to win today, I'll win." Complete Story

AOY: One more day
McClelland's 19 pound bag on Day One temporarily moved him from 23rd to 12th in the TTBAOY race, and even though he'll be fishing tomorrow, he's 46 points behind Lane. That's a big hill to climb with only 10 places to move up. McClelland needs eight places between him and Lane when the Sooner Run standings shake out to be the last man in. Complete Story

Off to a fast start
MUSKOGEE, Okla. — Without any prior knowledge of Fort Gibson Lake, Mike McClelland found the fish on Day One of the AutoZone Sooner Run to secure third place and has high hopes of duplicating that feat on Day Two.

"The biggest thing about it is we're on an impoundment rather than a river, so I feel good and I like my chances," McClelland said. "I mean I found some fish on the river, but the stability of this is a lot better. If you get around and do the right thing you should catch some fish in the course of the day." Complete Story

7th: McClelland Up and Down

"It feels really good to make a Top 12 here, but I'm disappointed about slipping the last 2 days," he said. "I don't feel I adjusted as well as I should have, and I know this is silly, but I really wanted to break 100 pounds. I came up 6 pounds short." Complete Story

4th: Stagnant Water Hurt McClelland

McClelland has been within a pound and a half of the lead throughout the tournament, but now finds himself more than 10 back and chasing three anglers.

"The current killed me today," he said. "I've really relied on the current to catch them in the afternoons and I've always been able to cull four or five times. Complete Story
